Time is running out for Florida residents to evacuate as Hurricane Milton barrels towards the state\u2019s Gulf Coast. While the majority have heeded the\u00a0Tampa mayor\u2019s evacuation orders<\/a>, some have stayed behind whether by choice or necessity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One such man, nicknamed \u201cLieutenant Dan\u201d, has caught the attention of the internet, authorities, and The Weather Channel\u2019s Jim Cantore for his refusal to leave his 20-foot boat anchored in Tampa Bay.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe water\u2019s going to come in, it\u2019s going to rise. If you\u2019re on land, it\u2019s going to flood. You\u2019re risking drowning. I\u2019m in a boat, so the boat goes up with the water\u2026 it\u2019s really the safest place to be, on my boat,\u201d the man, who goes by Joe Sea, said.<\/p>\n

A TikToker, who goes by\u00a0Tampa Terrence<\/a>, has been following Lieutenant Dan ever since he rode out Hurricane Helene in late September on his boat in Tampa Bay.<\/p>\n

But now, fans of the man, who shares a nickname with the\u00a0Forrest Gump<\/em>\u00a0character who is also an amputee, are worried he won\u2019t survive the much stronger Hurricane Milton that is expected to slam into the coast sometime late Wednesday into early Thursday.<\/p>\n

Shown through a series of videos, Terrence attempted to convince Lieutenant Dan that he needed to abandon ship and seek shelter in a house or hotel.<\/p>\n

The seafarer refused, stating he was better off on his boat. Since his boat was all he had to his name, he wanted to do everything he could to save it from the hurricane.<\/p>\n
