My point is, most people never know what secrets their homes may be hiding. One man, Simon Marks, from Luton, England, certainly never expected that a hole in his front yard would prove to be the entrance to an underground cavity from the Second World War\u2026We\u2019ll be upfront regarding the fact that this story played out a few years ago, but it makes for fascinating reading nonetheless.<\/p>\n

Yet after inspecting the ground, Simon realized that it was no flowerbed he\u2019d rolled his vehicle over, but a two-roomed World War II air raid shelter!<\/p>\n

\u201cThis massive hole appeared. I thought it was a sinkhole or a badly constructed garden,\u201d the 37-year-old\u00a0Simon told The Sun.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI was just terrified the whole house was going to vanish. I took some pictures and sent them to my dad.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I moved a few of the slabs out of the way I found a ladder. I got my selfie stick and put it down the hole where I saw two rooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad saw it and instantly said it\u2019s an air raid shelter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe googled it and found there are quite a few in this area. It is made from concrete lintels and is in immaculate condition.\u201d<\/p>\n

As per\u00a0reports<\/a>, Simon bought the house from an elderly couple who had build the home in the 1970s. He believes they must have know about the shelter\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe previous owner must have known it was there and when he built the house and put a garden in he must have filled it in,\u201d Simon explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe clearly wasn\u2019t very worried about it and it just sat there until the hatch fell through. I think it\u2019s great and I want to clear it out and preserve it if it\u2019s structurally sound.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s incredible to think it has all been made by hand. It\u2019s part of our history so it should be kept.\u201d<\/p>\n

Intrigued by the find, Simon and his father set about excavating the shelter with buckets, revealing the two-room shelter in its entirety.<\/p>\n
