But if anyone deserves a dignified funeral, it\u2019s these heroic men and women who risked their lives to serve our country.That\u2019s why stories like this one don\u2019t just make me smile \u2026 they set an example for all to follow.<\/p>\n
Once every quarter, the Florida National Cemetery holds a service for indigent and unclaimed veterans, but cemetery officials said they are welcoming services for individuals as well.Robert Krause served as a Marine in the 1950s. When he di ed, there were no family and no one to claim him.<\/p>\n
\u201dI\u2019ve heard it said that a veteran dies twice: once on the battlefield and the second time when people stop saying his name,\u201d said Nick Morales, a veteran of both the Marine Corps and U.S. Army.<\/p>\n
\u201dIf there\u2019s anything we can do to prevent the latter, so be it.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Nick and his other volunteer bikers showed up at Robert\u2019s funeral service to escort his casket from the James A. Haley Veterans\u2019 Hospital to the Florida National Cemetery.<\/p>\n
The bikers said that it is an honor to participate, because no veteran should be buried alone.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur motto is \u2018vets helping vets\u2019\u201d, Nick Morales said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not going to let any vet go to their final resting place by themselves.We all have a common bond of service \u2013 our service, what we\u2019ve done for our country. And regardless of what we\u2019ve done after our service, we still have that bond.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robert received the send-off he so deserved, complete with a motorcycle escort. They were there to proudly speak his name.His service ended with Taps.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not just Taps for Mr. Krause, it\u2019s Taps for all of us who are fallen. It\u2019s embedded in us,\u201d Morales added.<\/p>\n
