When they entered the living room, the couple was already on edge: the man in the wheelchair held his wife\u2019s hand, and she looked like she was about to scream. A tense silence filled the room.<\/p>\n

The dog froze at the sofa, the fur on its neck bristled, and suddenly it growled. A second later, it lunged at the soft cushions with a loud bark, burying its snout in the fabric. The owners gasped, and the officer frowned:<\/p>\n

It was teeming with a whole family \u2013 dozens of rats, with newborn pups, heaps of gray bodies wriggling and squeaking.<\/p>\n

The dog barked and tried to grab the rats, but the officer pulled it back. Even he, having seen a lot, was shocked by the scale. The sofa, where the family had sat for years, watched TV, and hosted guests, was a breeding ground for a living nightmare.<\/p>\n
