A light tap against the back of my seat. Then another. Then another \u2014 rhythmic, persistent, impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n

I turned around politely, forcing a tired smile. \u201cHey, buddy, could you try not to kick the seat? I\u2019m a little tired.\u201d<\/p>\n

His mother gave me an apologetic look. \u201cI\u2019m so sorry, he\u2019s just excited about flying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo problem,\u201d I said.\u00a0I\u2019ll be asleep in five minutes,<\/i>\u00a0I told myself.<\/p>\n

But five minutes became ten, then twenty. The tapping turned into thumping \u2014 full, deliberate kicks that rattled my seat and my patience.<\/p>\n
