However, there is one thing the star does not have. She has found a way to fill that space in her life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trisha is in a happy marriage with her fellow country music star,\u00a0Garth Brooks<\/a>. While they have not had any children together, she has taken on the role of an additional mother figure to her husband\u2019s three children.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Garth Brooks was married to Sandy Mahl on May 24, 1986, and the couple spent over 15 years together. They met in a bar near the campus of Oklahoma State University, the college they both attended. Brooks was acting as a bouncer at the bar, and he was introduced to Mahl when breaking up a fight she was involved in.<\/p>\n

In 2001, Brooks and Mahl decided to\u00a0separate<\/a>. The parents of three claimed that Brooks\u2019 busy career was to blame for the divorce. Mahl explained that her former husband would often be gone for eight to ten weeks at a time, and then would be overrun with various shows, parties, award ceremonies, and other events that kept him away from home.<\/p>\n

Despite the divorce and distance between the former couple, they remain good friends. Brooks even labels Mahl as \u201cphenomenal\u201d in his documentary, \u201cThe Road I\u2019m On.\u201d As recently as 2019, the star told\u00a0US Weekly<\/a>,<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat really surprised me was Sandy, the girls\u2019 mom. She was phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooks has acknowledged that his absence during their marriage likely meant that he missed a lot that Mahl was trying to tell him.<\/p>\n

The two have been able to continue to work together to raise their three daughters, Taylor, August, and Allie. Brooks revealed that the former couple still makes it a point to see the three girls in the mornings and evenings with no exceptions.<\/p>\n

The country star\u2019s philosophy seems to be that doing right by the children is how they do right for themselves.<\/p>\n

In 2005, Garth Brooks married country singer Trisha Yearwood, a fellow star whom he has known since 1987. The pair met while recording a demo.<\/p>\n

In Brooks\u2019 documentary, Mahl and her three daughters confirmed that they accepted Yearwood in their lives. The country singer\u2019s first wife revealed that she even thought Brooks\u2019 marriage to Yearwood was beneficial for the children.<\/p>\n

As revealed in her Good Housekeeping\u00a0interview,<\/a>\u00a0Mahl told Brooks,<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this is a really good move for you, and I think this is a really good move for our children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooks\u2019 three daughters have only ever shown excitement towards their stepmother. The eldest, Taylor, has joked that Yearwood\u2019s presence has improved the food in their father\u2019s hoSuse.<\/p>\n

As for the \u201cI Need You\u201d singer, Yearwood has admitted her new caretaker role took some getting used to.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you don\u2019t have children, you have the luxury of being selfish because it\u2019s just about you. You don\u2019t have to think about somebody else first,\u201d she\u00a0shared<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since getting to know the three girls, she has embraced her new role. Even with their closeness, Yearwood prefers being called \u201cbonus mom\u201d to being called \u201cstepmom\u201d to avoid negative connotations. She\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0SheKnows:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I think stepmom, I think Cinderella, you know, so I always prefer bonus mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yearwood now thinks of the three girls in her care as a\u00a0gift<\/a>\u00a0that she never knew she needed. It was Brooks that gave her the advice she claims to have helped her the most.<\/p>\n
