Her mother loved American actress Loretta Young and decided to name her daughter after her. We didn\u2019t have money for wallpaper, but my mommy made that old house stay warm and beautiful,\u201d Loretta\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryliving.com\/real-estate\/a35519\/country-artists-childhood-houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She married her first husband Oliver \u201cDoolittle\u201d Lynn when she was just 16 years old and he was 21. It was there Loretta suddenly started getting sick in the mornings \u2013\u00a0but had no idea why. She decided to see her doctor, who in turn asked her to get undressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI just pulled the sheet over my head, like an ostrich. When he was done, Doc told me I could get dressed again. His birth story says a lot about the circumstances in which Loretta and her family lived. Unfortunately, the second miscarriage resulted in blood poisoning, and once again, she couldn\u2019t afford to go to the hospital. She managed to survive, but it was a close-run thing.<\/p>\n<p>Despite it all, Loretta continued to fall pregnant. While expecting her third child, doctors said Loretta needed a Cesarean section. This became a major problem as nobody could get a hold of her husband, Doolittle; he was out working in the woods. After being at the hospital for days, Loretta finally delivered her baby the natural way, and everything went fine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoo called in from some logging camp and they kept teasing him. First, they said it was a boy, then a girl, then a boy again. She was her mother\u2019s right hand and worked closely with Loretta during her music career. Betty actually wrote a couple of songs for her mom, including\u00a0<em>\u201cWine, Women, and Song.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Unfortunately, Betty passed away in 2013 from complications to do with emphysema. She was 64.<\/p>\n<p>Loretta\u2019s first son, Jack Benny Lynn, was born in 1949. But, unlike his mother and siblings, Jack didn\u2019t pursue a career in the music industry.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-99340\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ebs.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-515564796.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jack Benny Lynn \/ Getty<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Instead, he dedicated his life to horses and became a successful horse trainer and blacksmith. However, his life was destined to end tragically. One day in 1984, Jack drowned trying to cross a river with his horse on the family property. He was 54 at the time and had a wife and three kids.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone thought Loretta would be completely devastated by Jack\u2019s passing; he was her heart\u2019s favorite among her six children. But it took a while before she got the terrible news; Loretta was being treated in hospital for exhaustion when Jack died. Then, after a couple of days, her husband had to drive up to the hospital to deliver the tragic information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe took it much better than we expected,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/archive\/a-stricken-coal-miners-daughter-mourns-the-drowning-of-her-favorite-son-vol-22-no-7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0her manager of 12 years, David Skepner. \u201cLoretta\u2019s going to be all right.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-99341\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ebs.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-515564908.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Loretta Lynn, center, is assisted by her husband, Mooney, on July 27 as they leave for a funeral for their son.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But of course, Jack\u2019s sudden death took a heavy toll on Loretta \u2013 no parent shouldn\u2019t have to bury their baby. In 2021, on the anniversary of his passing, Loretta shared a heartbreaking tribute to her beloved son:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a spitting image of his daddy. He was my blond-headed, blue-eyed baby. Just what I asked for. He was quiet and tender. I adored him with all my heart. She also worked for her mother as a producer.<\/p>\n<p>Ernest Ray Lynn, meanwhile, born in 1954, also followed in his mother\u2019s footsteps and made a career in the entertainment industry as a performer.<\/p>\n<p>In 1964, Loretta gave birth to twin girls Peggy and Patsy. During the holidays, Loretta was always reminded of what she lost \u2013 but also what she still\u00a0had.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201dI can\u2019t tell you how much I wish Doo, Jack, and Betty were with us today. My heart\u2019s never gotten over losing those three.
