One\u2019s loved ones come together to celebrate their accomplishment. But the joy was multiplied for this mother-daughter team because of what they had accomplished together.<\/p>\n

Together, a mother and daughter from the same family graduated from East Carolina University\u2019s registered nurse program. This is the first time something similar has occurred, said the institution.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt first they thought we were sisters, and then I would have to explain that I was the mom, and we were doing it together,\u201d Jessica Van Wagenen shared.<\/p>\n
Van Wagenen, a former marine who is now retired, claimed that she postponed her aspirations in order to raise her daughters. But now, as luck would have it, she started pursuing those goals once more, and her daughter did the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always thought the girls needed some sort of stability because we were always picking up, moving, and with their dad kind of in and out all the time,\u201d the mother said. \u201cSo, I decided to forgo my college and focus on giving the children as much stability as possible and stayed home with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keelin Van Wagenen, her daughter, expressed her pride in her mother for not giving up on her ambitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tell her every day that I\u2019m proud of her and she continued to do what she wanted to do,\u201d the proud daughter said.<\/p>\n
The careers of both women have already started. Keelin, Jessica\u2019s daughter, works as a pediatric nurse at ECU Health while Jessica works as an operating room nurse for Carteret Healthcare.<\/p>\n

The memories of attending nursing school together will be treasured forever, according to both women. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty exciting. It\u2019s really nice to be able to share that with my daughter. We will always have that together,\u201d Jessica said happily.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels cool. Some people went to school with their siblings, some with their significant others, I just get to say I went with my mom,\u201d Keelin said proudly.<\/p>\n
It is nice to watch this mother-daughter team working for their objectives. Come assist us in assisting them as they enter the workforce!<\/p>\n
