Bardot appeared on screen for the first time as Javotte Lemoine in\u00a0Crazy for Love<\/em>\u00a0in 1952 and made her first American production in\u00a0Act of Love<\/em>\u00a0with\u00a0Kirk Douglas in 1953. But it wasn\u2019t until she landed a role in the 1956 film\u00a0And God Created Women<\/em>\u00a0that she created her famous \u2018sex kitten\u2019 persona. The film was considered controversial in America, but it helped Bardot redefine the image of the modern woman.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a girl from a good family who was very well brought up. One day I turned my back on it all and became a bohemian,\u201d she once said.<\/p>\n

Bardot retired from acting at the age of 39, while still being a major star. This decision confused many, but she had her reasons.<\/h3>\n
