After receiving rejections from her mother and twenty additional families hoping to adopt her, a young girl\u2019s luck has changed.<\/p>\n

The adoption tale of Luca Trapanese and his daughter Alba has gone viral for many reasons, but perhaps most notably because of the rarity with which social services will award custody to a single, homosexual male.<\/p>\n

However, they did make an exception for Luca. and we couldn\u2019t be happier that they did.<\/p>\n

Italian Luca, 41, wrote a book about being a parent to Alba, a girl with Down syndrome, and the challenges he faced along the way, as reported by the BBC.<\/p>\n

Trapanese claimed in a radio appearance that his situation\u00a0\u201cdestroys stereotypes about fatherhood, religion, and family.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adoptions by gay or single parents in Italy have historically proved difficult.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told that I\u2019d only be given a child with an illness, a severe disability, or behavioral problems,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0he told the BBC.\u00a0\u201cI was absolutely OK with that.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
