The farm had been deserted for what seemed like years. Grass sprouted through the barn’s floorboards, the fence posts slouched like aged men, and the only footprints in the dust were from raccoons and the occasional wanderer. But that day, Zeus was on fire.
His tail was stiff, ears flat against his head, chest rising and falling with each bark that shattered the stillness like a blaring alarm. Officer Simmons immediately sensed something wasn’t right.
