The sergeant scribbled something in his notebook, but suddenly, the dog tugged on the leash, walking toward the bed. It paused, studying the man closely. After a moment, it sat beside the bed. Then, it lay down next to him, eyes never leaving his face.
“Bob, come on,” the sergeant urged, tugging on the leash.
The dog didn’t move. It neither growled nor barked; it just stayed next to the stranger, as if guarding him. Or perhaps… waiting. The sergeant tried again, but the dog stayed put. He sighed, having no choice but to leave Bob behind, promising to return later.
