It was a calm Sunday in Fairview, Ohio. Emma Collins, a 32-year-old teacher, was walking her dog past Maplewood Park when she noticed a little girl sitting alone on the swings, crying.
Her small fists clutched the chains, knuckles white.
“Sweetheart, are you okay?” Emma asked softly.
The girl shook her head. Through sobs, she whispered words that made Emma’s heart sink.
“He said… he’d give me candy if I kept quiet.”
Emma crouched beside her. “Who said that, honey?”
The girl’s lips quivered. “Mr. Harris… from next door.”
