You can take my seat.
It was an elderly man, thin and gray-haired, who had been sitting close by. He slowly got up, leaning on his cane. The woman shook her head:
— But you… it must be hard for you to stand too…
The old man smiled faintly:
— Don’t worry, I’ll take your place.
— Which place? — the woman asked, surprised.
Without saying another word, the man walked around the young guy and… sat right down on his lap.
The entire bus erupted in laughter. Some even started clapping. The young man turned crimson, his eyes wide, and jerked as if to stand up, but the old man settled himself even more comfortably.
— Well then, since the seat for the pregnant lady is taken, I’ll make use of your offer, — he said loudly, and once again the bus roared with laughter.
The young man, burning with shame, immediately jumped up and gave his seat to the woman. She lowered herself onto it carefully, sighed in relief, and thanked the old man.
