The minutes seemed endless. Then, suddenly, Victor’s chest rose, and he resumed breathing. Relief washed over the plane, followed by applause. Maya, exhausted and trembling, collapsed into her seat. Whispers spread: a little girl had just saved a billionaire.

Later, a flight attendant handed her an envelope. “Mr. Hale asked me to give you this. He couldn’t finish what he wanted to say.”
