These men have worked hard for months, and walked miles upon miles practicing for this very moment. All of their hard work and determination was about to pay off when they step before the audience. Even though this sport is quite unknown among the rest of the world, it’s been going on for decades in Japan. Shuudan Koudou was created 47 years ago at Japan’s Nippon Sports Science University (NSSU).

Even though it’s not common in the United States or even other countries, Shuudan Koudou is a lot like cheerleading competitions. The participants need an impressive ability to focus, maintain their body position and coordinate well with others. Winning a Shuudan Koudou competition is a great honor for these young people. Many of them even go on to be instructors, physical education advocates and trainers as adults!
Their dedication to this is genuinely impressive! Perhaps this will catch on with the rest of the world as well!
