My cat didn’t leave the kitchen all day, sitting on the gas stove and meowing: I was horrified when I understood the reason for her strange behavior 😱😱
That morning my cat was acting oddly. Usually, she sleeps until noon, lazily moving her paws in her sleep, but that day she seemed tense from the very start.
All day, she stayed in the kitchen. Every time I walked in, she was sitting on the gas stove, meowing loudly and insistently, or suddenly hissing while staring at the wall.
I picked her up and carried her out of the kitchen several times, thinking she was just playing or seeking attention. But as soon as I turned around, she was back on the stove, staring at me with wide-open eyes as if trying to tell me something.
At first, I thought she was hungry. I gave her food and her favorite treats, but she didn’t touch them. That was strange – my cat had never refused a “treat” before.
By evening, I started feeling worse. I felt weak, dizzy, and nauseous. I thought it was just fatigue or low blood pressure. But the cat became increasingly agitated – running around the kitchen, jumping back onto the stove, and meowing so loudly that it started to irritate me.

Only late in the evening did everything become clear. When my neighbor came into the kitchen to borrow a tool, he suddenly frowned and said:
— It smells like gas in here. Very strongly.
We called the emergency service. It turned out there was a carbon monoxide leak caused by damaged pipes behind the stove. The gas had been slowly building up, and the symptoms I had mistaken for fatigue were actually poisoning.
I still think about what could have happened if it hadn’t been for my cat. She had sensed it from the start. Her meowing, hissing, and attempts to keep me in the kitchen were desperate efforts to warn me.
We went straight to the hospital, got checked, and thankfully there were no serious consequences. But now, whenever my cat acts “strange,” I pay very close attention.
That day, she saved my life.
